After a week out of town, it's great to back in the saddle (Texas euphemism). For those who've expressed concern about my literary absence I have one thing to say . . . GET A LIFE! You should be glad that I have not been detracting you from more edifying reading.
As there will be 2,999 other guys blogging their thoughts about last week's "mother of all conferences" in Louisville, I will try to refrain from excessive pandering. However, it will help to digest and recycle some things for our own benefit. I look forward to immortalizing those thoughts in the coming days.
Until then, I reflect on Mark Dever's Wednesday evening sermon from 1 Corinthians 4. In so many words I took away this thought: you can spend much time in the Bible and spend very little time with God. I left thinking, "Wow, I didn't know how much I needed to hear that." Or, "I didn't realize that I'd become so engrossed in the text (black ink on white pages) that I'd grown distant from God." Or, "Man, I really need the men of my church to hold me accountable so I don't rely on a yearly sermon to spank me."

Get a life?!?
Allowing us time for better reading?
Let me quote from the Ancient book of Wisdom "The Proverbs of Mayberry"
"Carson, Piper and Schreiner are great but for words from the beej, they can wait." page 1
"Like a cool drink of water, so are the wise words from the Maxwell house. Good to the last drop!" page 1,654
Well, how can I argue with "The Proverbs of Mayberry"? Of all the Apocryphal literature, this stands the most authoritative for 21st century life and practice. Thank you for reminding us of its benefit, brother Scott.
Blessings to you.
