The Sweet Smell of Madness

Ah, it's that time of year again. Heaven must be the perpetual & infinite excitement we know dimly as March Madness. Why else would God give us such a precious gift except to whet our appetites for Beulah Land? It consumes us, thrills us, possesses us, caresses us, and adopts us. It's college basketball in all its glory and I love it.

Of course, Texas is a basketball wasteland. With five teams in the tourney (UT, A&M, Tech, North Texas and A&M-Corpus Christi), Texas cares about Spring football practice and where Bill Parcells ate supper last night.

Knowing I will roll a TV into my office rigged with a sophisticated paper clip-based antennule, my wife jokingly remarked that Sunday's sermon will be unusually more less-than-stellar. At least I think she was joking. Nevertheless, I hereby submit my final four and 2007 NCAA champion: Maryland, Pitt, North Carolina and Memphis. Memphis will triumph over Maryland in the Finals.

They mock at kings [i.e., Florida] and rulers [i.e., Jones, Altman, Matta, Pitino, Williams] are a laughing matter to them. They laugh at every fortress and heap up rubble to capture it (Habakkuk 1.10).
